Is Windows Vista Putting Your Network At Risk?
Since 2007, Windows Vista has been gracing computers with their operating system. However, due to the recent upgrade of newer versions of Windows, along with the slow decline in the OS since 2009, Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) will be saying bon voyage on April 11, 2017. In fact, according to an article in Computer World by Greg Keizer, "Vista has been in decline since October 2009, when it peaked at 20% of all in-use Windows editions", which is when Windows 7 came along to save the day (see the full article here).
What does this mean for current Windows Vista users?
First, let me put your mind at some ease. I assure you that your computer will not spontaneously combust, and you will not have Microsoft crew members show up at your door in hazmat suits to remove the remains. In reality, you will no longer receive Microsoft updates or support for the OS after April 2017. Your OS will still be functional and still be in working order, however keep in mind that your information will be at a major security risk without the Microsoft updates. Be sure to perform regular backups, and work at keeping your anti-virus software active and up to date, to cut down on your risk of being infected and invaded by those specifically seeking your vulnerable Vista system.
What do we recommend?
fact sheet Look at this as an opportunity to go out with the old and in with the NEW! Just because Vista is out, doesn't mean that you can't use any Microsoft Windows OS. Microsoft isn't going anywhere, so be sure to consider the other options that they have available. For your upgrade, we recommend moving to a new edition with a Windows 10 Pro, depending on your OS needs. Keep in mind, that just like Vista's run ended, so will the rest. The Microsoft Windows life cycle is a great resource for helping you choose which OS will be the best option for your personal or business use.
